The mission of the Family Counseling Center of Missouri Inc., is to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities by helping people to make positive changes in their lives and empowering them to make healthy and effective choices. We strive to do this by providing professional therapy, treatment, community support and educational services in a physically and psychologically safe environment that enhances self-esteem. We are committed to the principle that all persons who need treatment should receive high quality services, regardless of ability to pay.

McCambridge Center, a women and children's CSTAR program, has operated as a branch of Family Counseling Center of Missouri, Inc. since 1978. The center is named after Academy Award winning actress Mercedes McCambridge who was a recovering alcoholic and spokeswoman supportive of alcohol and drug abuse treatment. McCambridge Center assists chemically dependent women face their disease and develop a healthy approach to life. The program strives to provide the highest quality of care to women and their families in Central Missouri. McCambridge Center offers the following services through three levels of treatment:

• Family Counseling
• Psycho education Groups
• Community Support
• Children's Services
• Nursing
Residential Treatment
Women in need of continuous intervention to address their addiction can reside in McCambridge Center's structured living environment while attending a wide range of classes (relapse prevention, relationships, parenting, etc.), twelve step meetings and group and family therapy. Children may accompany their mothers and attend school or a community daycare. Community support services are provided to assist with housing, education, and employment.
Day Treatment
Women may participate in daily therapeutic activities that allow them to obtain the coping skills needed to begin recovery while residing in a safe environment in the community. Day treatment clients attend daily classes while receiving nursing, community support and individual, group and family therapy.
Intensive Outpatient
Women who need less structure in recovery can participate in McCambridge Center's day or evening program up to 19 hours per week. Services include individual, group and family therapy, community support and educational classes that focus on relapse prevention. Daycare and nursing services are available as needed.
Aftercare Program
Women who have successfully completed more intensive treatment or who require less support in recovery may attend McCambridge Center's aftercare program. Services include individual, group and family therapy, as well as community support. Daycare and nursing services are available as needed.
Children's Program
Therapeutic services are offered to all clients' children, regardless to their level of treatment. These services include individual, group and family therapy designed to address the developmental and emotional needs of these children.
Sliding Scale
Charges for services at McCambridge Center may be based on the client's income through our sliding fee scale program through the Department of Mental Health. HMO's and other private insurance policies are also accepted.
