The mission of the Family Counseling Center of Missouri Inc., is to improve the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities by helping people to make positive changes in their lives and empowering them to make healthy and effective choices. We strive to do this by providing professional therapy, treatment, community support and educational services in a physically and psychologically safe environment that enhances self-esteem. Daybreak is a co-occurring disorders treatment center which offers both residential and outpatient services for individuals living with a chronic mental illness and substance abuse issues. The program is based on a continuum of care treatment model, which matches level of intensity with client need.
The Daybreak Treatment Center program focuses on five major areas:
• Helping the client to understand his/her mental health diagnosis and how it relates to substance abuse
• Understanding the client's mental health diagnosis
• Medication stabilization and compliance, and understanding the important role of medication in maintaining psychiatric stability.
• Learning how to incorporate drug and alcohol recovery principles into daily living.
• Developing the tools necessary for healthy independent living including: self-care, nutrition, cooking, maintaining an apartment, money management and use of leisure time.

• Individualized assessment and treatment planning
• Continuum of care treatment model
• Individual Therapy: Weekly sessions focus on individualized goals
• Group Participation: A menu of group therapy, relapse prevention and psycho-education groups offered each week are designed to improve social skills, communication, stress and anger management, vocational skills, budgeting, nutrition and cooking. With staff assistance, clients choose weekly from these groups to build an individual treatment regimen.
• Nursing Services: Each client is screened and monitored by a registered nurse.
• Case Management: Clients are referred and engaged with appropriate community services.
• Therapeutic Milieu: Clients are supervised 24 hours per day by experienced and trained personnel who promote a positive and safe learning environment.
• Medication Management: Client medication is managed by a psychiatrist and monitored daily by certified technicians under the supervision of the registered nurse.
Residential Treatment
Long term residential treatment at Daybreak involves participation in a structured and intense therapeutic community, working together to recover from drug and alcohol abuse and psychiatric illness.
Outpatient Treatment
Outpatient services include individual, group and family education and counseling. Outpatient participants are also invited to participate in meals and recreational activities. Clients who have completed residential treatment are referred to the outpatient program for aftercare.
